Thesis Abstract
Abstract
The prevalence of stress among college athletes is a growing concern due to its negative impact on both their physical and mental well-being. This research study aims to investigate the effectiveness of a mindfulness-based intervention in reducing stress levels and enhancing overall well-being in college athletes. The study will involve a sample of college athletes who will participate in an 8-week mindfulness program tailored specifically for athletes. The impact of the intervention will be assessed through various measures, including self-reported stress levels, psychological well-being, and performance indicators. Chapter one provides an introduction to the research topic, highlighting the background of the study, the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. The literature review in chapter two will explore existing research on mindfulness interventions, stress management strategies, and the relationship between mindfulness and athletic performance. This chapter aims to provide a theoretical framework for the study and identify gaps in the current literature. Chapter three will detail the research methodology, including the research design, participant recruitment, intervention procedures, data collection methods, and data analysis techniques. The study will utilize both quantitative and qualitative methods to comprehensively assess the impact of the mindfulness intervention on stress levels and overall well-being in college athletes. The research design will be a pre-test/post-test control group design to compare the outcomes between the intervention group and a control group. Chapter four will present the findings of the study, including quantitative results from stress assessments, well-being measures, and performance indicators, as well as qualitative data from participant interviews and feedback. The discussion will analyze the results in relation to the research objectives, theoretical framework, and implications for practice. It will also address any limitations of the study and suggest directions for future research in this area. In conclusion, chapter five will provide a summary of the key findings, implications for college athletes, recommendations for coaches and sports administrators, and suggestions for further research. The study aims to contribute to the growing body of research on mindfulness interventions in athletic settings and provide valuable insights into effective strategies for managing stress and promoting overall well-being among college athletes. Keywords mindfulness, stress management, well-being, college athletes, intervention, performance, mental health, sports psychology.
