Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Teaching health education in secondary schools poses various challenges that can hinder effective delivery of important health information to students. This research project aims to identify and analyze the problems faced by educators when teaching health education in secondary schools. The study will explore issues such as a lack of teacher training in health education, insufficient time and resources dedicated to health education in the curriculum, and challenges in engaging students with health-related topics. One significant problem identified in teaching health education in secondary schools is the lack of specialized training for teachers in this subject area. Many educators may not have received formal training in health education and may feel ill-equipped to teach complex health topics to students. This can result in a lack of confidence and proficiency in delivering health education content effectively. Furthermore, the limited time and resources allocated to health education in the curriculum can be a major obstacle. With the increasing demands on schools to cover a wide range of subjects, health education may not receive the attention it deserves. This can lead to rushed lessons, insufficient coverage of important health topics, and a lack of depth in understanding among students. Engaging students with health-related topics can also be challenging, as students may not always see the immediate relevance of health education to their lives. This lack of engagement can result in disinterest, poor participation, and a limited understanding of key health concepts. Educators may struggle to make health education content relatable and engaging for students, further complicating the teaching process. Addressing the problems of teaching health education in secondary schools requires a multi-faceted approach. Providing specialized training and professional development opportunities for teachers can enhance their skills and confidence in delivering health education content. Allocating more time and resources to health education in the curriculum can ensure that important health topics are covered comprehensively. Additionally, incorporating interactive and practical teaching methods can help to engage students and promote a deeper understanding of health concepts. By identifying and addressing the challenges faced in teaching health education in secondary schools, educators can improve the delivery of crucial health information to students and promote healthy behaviors and lifestyles among the younger generation.
