Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on cardiovascular health in college students. Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of mortality worldwide, and adopting effective exercise interventions early in life can help prevent its development. HIIT has gained popularity due to its time efficiency and potential health benefits, but its specific effects on cardiovascular health in young adults remain unclear. This research employed a mixed-methods approach to explore the impact of HIIT on various cardiovascular parameters among college students. The study design involved a 12-week intervention program where participants engaged in structured HIIT sessions three times per week. Cardiovascular health was assessed through measures such as resting heart rate, blood pressure, aerobic fitness, and lipid profiles. In addition, qualitative data were collected through participant interviews to gain insights into their experiences with the HIIT program and perceived changes in cardiovascular health. The findings revealed significant improvements in cardiovascular health following the HIIT intervention. Participants exhibited reductions in resting heart rate and blood pressure, indicating enhanced cardiovascular efficiency. Aerobic fitness levels also showed marked improvements, with participants achieving higher maximal oxygen consumption values post-intervention. Furthermore, favorable changes were observed in lipid profiles, with reductions in total cholesterol and triglyceride levels among participants. Qualitative data highlighted the positive experiences of participants during the HIIT program, with many reporting increased motivation, energy levels, and overall well-being. Participants expressed a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction with their cardiovascular improvements, indicating a high level of engagement and adherence to the exercise regimen. This study contributes valuable insights into the potential benefits of HIIT for enhancing cardiovascular health in college students. The findings underscore the importance of implementing structured exercise programs, such as HIIT, to promote cardiovascular fitness and overall well-being among young adults. Future research should explore long-term effects of HIIT on cardiovascular health and further investigate the mechanisms underlying these beneficial outcomes. Overall, this study provides a foundation for understanding the role of HIIT in improving cardiovascular health and underscores its potential as a preventive strategy against cardiovascular disease in college populations.
