Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This thesis investigates the impact of mindfulness-based interventions on stress and anxiety levels in college students through a randomized controlled trial. Stress and anxiety are prevalent mental health concerns among college students, affecting their academic performance and overall well-being. Mindfulness-based interventions have gained recognition as promising approaches to reduce stress and anxiety by promoting present-moment awareness and acceptance. This study aims to contribute to the existing literature by examining the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions in a college student population. The research design involves a randomized controlled trial where participants will be randomly assigned to either a mindfulness intervention group or a control group. The mindfulness intervention will consist of guided mindfulness practices, such as meditation and body scan exercises, conducted over a specified period. Pre- and post-intervention assessments will be used to measure changes in stress and anxiety levels among participants in both groups. The literature review provides a comprehensive overview of existing research on mindfulness interventions, stress, and anxiety in college students. It highlights the theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence supporting the potential benefits of mindfulness practices in reducing stress and anxiety symptoms. The review also discusses the methodological considerations and limitations of previous studies, guiding the design and implementation of the present research. The research methodology section outlines the study design, participant recruitment procedures, intervention protocols, data collection methods, and statistical analysis plan. It also addresses ethical considerations, including participant confidentiality and informed consent. The study aims to recruit a diverse sample of college students to enhance the generalizability of the findings and ensure representation across various demographic variables. The findings section presents the results of the randomized controlled trial, including changes in stress and anxiety levels observed in the mindfulness intervention group compared to the control group. Statistical analyses will be used to assess the effectiveness of the mindfulness intervention and identify potential moderators or mediators of the intervention effects. The discussion interprets the findings in the context of existing literature, theoretical frameworks, and practical implications for college counseling services and mental health promotion. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the growing body of research on mindfulness-based interventions for stress and anxiety management in college students. The findings have the potential to inform evidence-based practices in college counseling centers and support the well-being of students facing academic and personal challenges. Recommendations for future research and implications for policy and practice are discussed to further advance the field of mindfulness-based interventions in higher education settings.
