Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This thesis examines the impact of mindfulness-based interventions on stress and anxiety levels among college students through a randomized controlled trial. Stress and anxiety are prevalent among college students and can have detrimental effects on their academic performance, mental health, and overall well-being. Mindfulness-based interventions, which involve techniques to increase awareness and acceptance of present-moment experiences, have shown promise in reducing stress and anxiety in various populations. However, there is a need to explore the specific effects of these interventions on college students. The study will involve a randomized controlled trial where college students will be randomly assigned to either a mindfulness-based intervention group or a control group. The intervention group will participate in a structured mindfulness program, which may include mindfulness meditation, mindful breathing exercises, and mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques. The control group will receive no intervention or will participate in a non-mindfulness-based activity to control for the effects of time and attention. Data will be collected through self-report measures, such as validated questionnaires assessing stress levels, anxiety symptoms, mindfulness skills, and well-being. Objective measures, such as physiological indicators of stress (e.g., heart rate variability) and academic performance metrics, may also be included to provide a comprehensive assessment of the outcomes. The findings of this study will contribute to the existing literature on mindfulness-based interventions and their effectiveness in reducing stress and anxiety among college students. The results may have implications for the development of targeted interventions to support the mental health and well-being of college students. Additionally, the study design, including the randomized controlled trial methodology, will provide robust evidence to support the causal relationship between mindfulness interventions and stress and anxiety outcomes. Overall, this thesis aims to advance our understanding of the impact of mindfulness-based interventions on stress and anxiety levels among college students and to provide valuable insights for the development of evidence-based interventions to promote mental health and well-being in this population.
