Abstract
Examination malpractice in tertiary institutions is a prevalent issue that undermines the integrity and credibility of the education system. This research aims to identify and analyze the problems associated with examination malpractice in tertiary institutions. The study utilizes a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys and interviews to gather data from students, teachers, and administrators. Findings from the research reveal several key problems contributing to examination malpractice, including lack of ethical values among students, pressure to excel academically, inadequate invigilation during exams, and the availability of technology for cheating. Additionally, the study highlights the role of societal attitudes towards education, where success is often valued over the means of achieving it. Furthermore, the research explores the consequences of examination malpractice on students, institutions, and the society at large. Academic dishonesty not only erodes the quality of education but also diminishes the value of academic credentials. Moreover, the prevalence of cheating undermines the efforts of honest students and creates an unfair academic environment. According to Oxford dictionary, malpractice is defined as: “a careless illegal or unacceptable behavior by somebody in a professional or official position eg. Medical practice”. Hornby (2003).</p><p>The American Heritage dictionary Mifflm (2009) defines malpractice as an “improper or unethical conduct by the holder of a professional or official position”.</p></div><h3></h3><br> <br><p></p>
