Abstract
This research project investigates the phenomenon of Japonisme, focusing on the influence of Japanese art and culture on French aesthetics and artistic movements. It explores how Japanese woodblock prints, ceramics, and other traditional art forms captured the imagination of French artists, collectors, and intellectuals during the 19th century, and examines the impact of Japonisme on the development of Impressionism, Art Nouveau, and other avant-garde movements in France. Through a comparative analysis of French and Japanese visual culture, this study seeks to elucidate the reciprocal exchange of artistic ideas and motifs between East and West, and its enduring legacy in the global art world.
