Abstract

This project examines the decomposition rates of various organic materials commonly found in natural and human-impacted environments. Decomposition is a crucial process in the carbon and nutrient cycling that sustains life. However, decomposition rates can vary significantly depending on the chemical and physical properties of the organic material as well as environmental conditions. Through a controlled experiment, decomposition will be measured over time for leaves, wood, food waste, and plastic materials. The results will help understand how different organic materials break down and have implications for managing organic wastes, carbon sequestration, and environmental sustainability.
