Abstract
This project examines the issue of noise pollution and how it affects the ability of wildlife to communicate. Anthropogenic noise from sources like vehicles, construction equipment, and urban development has been increasing in volume and prevalence. Many animal species rely on acoustic signals for important functions like finding mates, warning of predators, and maintaining territorial boundaries. Exposure to excessive noise has been shown to interfere with these signals and disrupt wildlife behavior and ecology. This research project measures noise levels in natural areas near sources of disturbance and observes how local bird and mammal species respond. The goal is to better understand the impacts of noise pollution on wildlife communication networks and what can be done to mitigate these effects.
