Abstract

This project examines the issues of biodiversity loss and habitat fragmentation and their impacts on local ecosystems. It explores how habitat loss and the division of natural areas impacts local plant and animal populations. Field research involves assessing habitat connectivity in a fragmented forest patch and tracking changes in biodiversity over time. Desktop research analyzes the causes of fragmentation from urban expansion and infrastructure development. The findings indicate fragmentation leads to declines in native species and increases risks of local extinction. Recommendations are provided on how to restore habitat corridors and protect biodiversity in the face of growing human impacts on natural areas.
