Property tax assessment on residential properties is a fundamental aspect of local government revenue generation in Imo State, Nigeria. This research project aims to analyze the current property tax assessment system in Imo State, focusing on residential properties. The study examines the methods used for property valuation, the assessment process, and the challenges faced by property owners and tax authorities in the state. Through a combination of literature review, interviews with property owners, and data analysis of property tax records, the research seeks to provide insights into the effectiveness and fairness of the property tax assessment system in Imo State. By understanding the existing practices and identifying areas for improvement, the study aims to contribute to the enhancement of property tax administration in the state. The findings of the research project will shed light on issues such as the accuracy of property valuations, the transparency of the assessment process, and the level of compliance among property owners. Additionally, the study will explore the impact of property tax rates on residential property owners and their willingness to pay taxes. The research project will also consider best practices in property tax assessment from other jurisdictions to provide recommendations for reforming the system in Imo State. By comparing the current practices with international standards, the study aims to offer practical suggestions for improving the efficiency and equity of property tax assessment in the state. Overall, the research project on property tax assessment on residential properties in Imo State is significant for local government revenue generation and the equitable distribution of tax burdens among property owners.
