Abstract
Climate change, particularly flooding, poses a significant threat to housing for the urban poor in Ilajesomolu Local Government area. This research project aims to investigate the effects of climate change-induced flooding on the housing conditions of the urban poor in the region. The study will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis and qualitative interviews with residents and local authorities. The research will focus on assessing the vulnerability of housing structures to flooding in Ilajesomolu and examining the coping strategies employed by the urban poor to deal with the impacts of climate change on their shelter. By analyzing data on past flooding events and mapping the areas most at risk, the study seeks to identify patterns and trends in the relationship between climate change-induced flooding and housing conditions for the urban poor. Through interviews and surveys with residents, the research aims to document the lived experiences of the urban poor during flooding events, including the challenges they face in accessing safe and secure housing.
