** The presence of microplastics in marine environments has raised significant concerns due to their widespread distribution and potential adverse effects on marine ecosystems. This study aimed to assess microplastic pollution in coastal waters and investigate its impact on marine ecosystems. The research methodology involved sampling and analysis of water and sediment samples from selected coastal areas to determine the abundance and distribution of microplastics. Additionally, biological samples were collected to assess the potential ingestion of microplastics by marine organisms. The literature review highlighted the sources, distribution, and ecological impacts of microplastics in marine environments. Various studies have shown that microplastics can be ingested by marine organisms, leading to negative effects on their health and survival. Moreover, the persistence of microplastics in the environment poses long-term risks to marine ecosystems. The findings of this study revealed high concentrations of microplastics in coastal waters, with diverse types and sizes detected in both water and sediment samples. The analysis of biological samples also indicated the presence of microplastics in marine organisms, suggesting the potential transfer of these contaminants through the food chain. The discussion of findings emphasized the need for effective management strategies to mitigate microplastic pollution and protect marine ecosystems. In conclusion, the assessment of microplastic pollution in coastal waters underscores the urgent need for proactive measures to address this environmental issue.
