Abstract
Mining activities are essential for meeting the demand for metals and minerals but can also have significant negative impacts on the environment if not properly managed. This project aims to investigate how the risks mining poses to the environment can be mitigated through sustainable practices. Chapter 1 provides an overview of common environmental issues associated with mining such as water and air pollution, chemical spills, and habitat destruction. Chapter 2 examines regulatory frameworks and certification programs aimed at reducing mining's footprint. Chapter 3 analyzes strategies employed by leading companies in various mining subsectors. Chapter 4 presents case studies of mines that have successfully implemented rehabilitation and closure plans. Chapter 5 concludes with recommendations for how mining operations can adopt a more holistic approach to environmental stewardship throughout the project lifecycle.
