Abstract
Transportation is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and local air pollution. As populations and economies continue to grow, transportation emissions will increase substantially if no action is taken. This project examines strategies for promoting more sustainable transportation options like electric vehicles to reduce environmental impacts. Electric vehicles produce zero direct emissions and can help decarbonize the transportation sector if powered by renewable energy. However, high upfront costs currently limit widespread adoption. This project analyzes policies to increase electric vehicle usage through incentives, regulations, and investments in charging infrastructure. The impacts of electric vehicles on air quality and carbon emissions are modeled to quantify their potential environmental benefits. Recommendations are provided on policies and programs that can accelerate the transition to sustainable transportation.
