Thesis Abstract

Abstract

Soil health is essential for sustainable agriculture and food security. However, conventional agricultural practices have degraded soils through excessive tilling, loss of organic matter, overuse of fertilizers and lack of crop diversity. This has reduced soil fertility and increased erosion risks. Regenerative agriculture aims to reverse this degradation by adopting holistic practices that improve the biological, chemical and physical properties of soil over time. This project evaluates regenerative practices like no-till farming, cover cropping, compost application and integrated livestock management. It assesses their impacts on soil organic matter, microbial activity, water retention and nutrient cycling. The results demonstrate the potential of regenerative approaches to rebuild soil health, increase yields, reduce inputs and foster more sustainable food production.
