Thesis Abstract
Abstract
Global citizenship is a concept that emphasizes the interconnectedness of people across national, cultural, and geographical boundaries. As the world becomes increasingly globalized, individuals are facing a wide range of global issues that require collective action and awareness. In order to address these challenges, it is essential for citizens to develop a global mindset and take an active role in promoting positive change on a global scale. This research project explores the key global issues that impact global citizens today. These issues include climate change, human rights violations, poverty and inequality, access to education and healthcare, and the rise of nationalism and populism. By examining these challenges through a global citizenship lens, this study aims to highlight the importance of fostering a sense of global responsibility and solidarity among individuals worldwide. Furthermore, this research investigates the role of education in cultivating global citizenship and empowering individuals to become active global citizens. Education plays a crucial role in shaping individuals' perspectives and attitudes towards global issues, as well as providing them with the knowledge and skills needed to address these challenges effectively. By integrating global citizenship education into formal and informal learning settings, individuals can develop a deeper understanding of global issues and become more engaged in global advocacy and activism. In addition, this study examines the impact of technology and social media on global citizenship. Technology has transformed the way individuals communicate, access information, and engage with global issues. Social media platforms have provided a powerful tool for mobilizing global citizens, raising awareness about pressing global challenges, and fostering global solidarity. However, technology also poses challenges such as the spread of misinformation, online hate speech, and digital divides that need to be addressed in order to harness its full potential for global citizenship. Overall, this research project underscores the importance of global citizenship in addressing pressing global issues and promoting a more sustainable and equitable world. By fostering a sense of global interconnectedness, solidarity, and responsibility, individuals can contribute to building a more inclusive and peaceful global society. Through education, advocacy, and collective action, global citizens have the power to create positive change and shape a better future for all.
