Abstract
Green building standards and certification programs are an important tool for promoting more sustainable construction practices and reducing the environmental impact of the built environment. This project examines the development and implementation of green building standards and looks at popular certification programs like LEED and BREEAM. It analyzes the environmental, economic and social benefits of green building including reduced energy and water usage, lower operating costs, improved indoor air quality, and increased property values. Case studies of certified green buildings are presented to demonstrate best practices. The project concludes by discussing policy recommendations and the future direction of green building standards to support widespread adoption of sustainable construction globally.
