Abstract

Climate change poses one of the greatest threats to our environment and society. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is crucial to mitigate the worst impacts of global warming. Carbon offset programs allow individuals and organizations to balance out their carbon footprint by funding projects that reduce emissions or remove carbon from the atmosphere. This project examines the development and implementation of voluntary carbon offset programs. It explores different offset standards and methodologies, as well as the role of registries in accounting and verification. Case studies of existing programs are analyzed to identify best practices. Recommendations are provided for establishing an effective carbon offset initiative that drives investment in climate solutions.
