Abstract
This study aims to investigate the impact of guidance and counseling on the academic performance of students at Emmanuel College in Odeda, Ogun State, Nigeria. The research explores the role of guidance and counseling services in supporting students' educational goals and overall well-being. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques to provide a comprehensive analysis. In-depth interviews will be conducted with students, teachers, and counselors to gather insights into the current guidance and counseling practices at Emmanuel College. Additionally, surveys will be administered to a sample of students to assess their perceptions of the effectiveness of guidance and counseling services in improving their academic performance. Academic records will also be analyzed to compare the academic achievements of students who have utilized counseling services with those who have not. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the relationship between guidance and counseling and academic performance. By identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the current guidance and counseling services at Emmanuel College, recommendations can be made to enhance the effectiveness of these services in supporting students' academic success. Overall, this research seeks to shed light on the importance of guidance and counseling in promoting positive student outcomes, particularly in the context of a secondary school in Nigeria. By understanding the impact of guidance and counseling on academic performance, educators and policymakers can implement targeted interventions to better support students in achieving their educational goals.
