Thesis Abstract
Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the effect of parental monitoring on sexual abstinence among female students in secondary schools. Adolescents, particularly females, are at a vulnerable stage where they are exposed to various risks, including engaging in early sexual activity. Parental monitoring, which involves the supervision, guidance, and involvement of parents in their children's lives, has been identified as a significant factor in influencing adolescent behavior, including decisions regarding sexual activity. The study will employ a quantitative research design, utilizing a structured questionnaire to collect data from a sample of female students in secondary schools. The questionnaire will include items related to parental monitoring practices, such as parental knowledge of their child's whereabouts, activities, and friends, as well as parental communication and supervision. Additionally, the questionnaire will assess the students' attitudes towards sexual abstinence, their knowledge of sexual health, and their sexual behaviors. The data collected will be analyzed using statistical methods, including regression analysis, to examine the relationship between parental monitoring and sexual abstinence among female students. It is hypothesized that higher levels of parental monitoring will be associated with a higher likelihood of sexual abstinence among female students. The study will also explore potential mediating factors, such as the students' attitudes towards sex and their knowledge of sexual health, in the relationship between parental monitoring and sexual abstinence. The findings of this research project are expected to contribute to the existing literature on parental influences on adolescent sexual behavior, particularly among female students in secondary schools. By identifying the role of parental monitoring in promoting sexual abstinence, the study aims to provide valuable insights for parents, educators, and policymakers in developing effective strategies to support adolescents in making healthy choices regarding sexual activity. Overall, this research project seeks to shed light on the important role that parents play in shaping their children's attitudes and behaviors related to sexuality. By enhancing our understanding of the impact of parental monitoring on sexual abstinence among female students in secondary schools, the study aims to inform interventions and programs aimed at promoting positive sexual health outcomes for adolescents.
