Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This thesis investigates the impact of gamification on student engagement and learning outcomes in the field of Economics education. Gamification, the application of game elements and principles in non-game contexts, is a promising approach to enhance student motivation and learning in educational settings. The study aims to explore how integrating gamified elements into Economics education can improve student engagement levels and ultimately enhance learning outcomes. The research methodology involved a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of student performance data and qualitative assessment of student perceptions and experiences. A sample of Economics students from various educational institutions participated in the study, engaging with gamified learning activities designed specifically for the research. The findings of the study revealed that gamification positively influenced student engagement in Economics education. Students reported higher levels of motivation, enjoyment, and interest in learning when exposed to gamified elements. Moreover, the analysis of student performance data indicated a significant improvement in learning outcomes among students who experienced gamified learning activities compared to traditional instructional methods. The study also identified various factors that influenced the effectiveness of gamification in Economics education, including the design of gamified activities, student preferences, and the integration of feedback mechanisms. Additionally, limitations of the study, such as sample size constraints and potential biases, were acknowledged and discussed. Overall, the results suggest that gamification has the potential to transform Economics education by fostering greater student engagement and improving learning outcomes. The implications of these findings for educators, curriculum designers, and policymakers are discussed, highlighting the importance of incorporating gamified elements into educational practices to enhance student learning experiences in Economics. Thesis Overview

The research project titled "Assessing the Impact of Gamification on Student Engagement and Learning Outcomes in Economics Education" aims to investigate the effectiveness of incorporating gamification techniques in the field of economics education. Gamification, which involves the application of game-design elements in non-game contexts, has gained popularity in various educational settings as a means to enhance student engagement and motivation. This study seeks to explore how integrating gamification strategies into economics education can positively influence student engagement levels and improve learning outcomes. The research will begin with a comprehensive review of existing literature on gamification in education, economics education, and related fields. This review will provide a foundation for understanding the theoretical underpinnings of gamification and its potential impact on student learning and engagement. By examining previous studies and theories, the research aims to identify gaps in the current literature and contribute to the growing body of knowledge on this topic. The study will then proceed to design and implement a research methodology that includes data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Surveys, interviews, and observations may be used to gather data on student perceptions, engagement levels, and academic performance before and after the implementation of gamified activities in economics courses. Quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques will be employed to evaluate the impact of gamification on student engagement and learning outcomes. The findings of this research are expected to provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of gamification in economics education. By assessing student engagement levels, motivation, and academic achievement, the study aims to determine whether gamification can be a successful pedagogical approach in enhancing learning experiences in economics courses. The outcomes of this research may have implications for educators, curriculum designers, and policymakers seeking innovative methods to improve student engagement and academic performance in economics education. In conclusion, this research project seeks to contribute to the ongoing discourse on gamification in education by specifically focusing on its application in economics education. By examining the impact of gamification on student engagement and learning outcomes, the study aims to shed light on the potential benefits and challenges associated with integrating gamified activities into economics curricula. Ultimately, the research aims to provide evidence-based recommendations for educators looking to enhance student engagement and improve learning outcomes in economics education through the use of gamification techniques.
