Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Examination malpractice among secondary school students has become a pervasive issue in many educational systems worldwide. This research project aims to investigate the underlying causes of examination malpractice among secondary school students, with a focus on understanding the factors that contribute to this phenomenon. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative research methods to gather comprehensive data on the causes of examination malpractice. A sample of secondary school students will be selected from various schools, and data will be collected through surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions. The quantitative aspect of the study involves administering questionnaires to a large sample of students to collect data on their perceptions of examination malpractice, motivations for engaging in malpractice, and attitudes towards cheating. Statistical analysis will be conducted to identify patterns and trends in the data, providing insights into the prevalence of examination malpractice and the factors that influence students' behavior. The qualitative component of the research involves conducting in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with selected students to explore their experiences, attitudes, and motivations related to examination malpractice. Thematic analysis will be used to identify common themes and patterns in the qualitative data, allowing for a more nuanced understanding of the underlying causes of malpractice. The findings of this research are expected to shed light on the complex factors that drive students to engage in examination malpractice. By uncovering the root causes of this behavior, the study aims to inform the development of targeted interventions and strategies to address and prevent examination malpractice among secondary school students. Overall, this research project is significant as it contributes to the existing literature on examination malpractice and provides valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and stakeholders in the education sector. By understanding the underlying causes of malpractice, educational institutions can implement effective measures to promote academic integrity and ethical behavior among students, ultimately ensuring a fair and transparent examination system.
