Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Telehealth has emerged as a promising solution to improve healthcare access and delivery, particularly for older adults managing chronic diseases. This systematic review aims to explore the impact of telehealth on chronic disease management in the older adult population. The study evaluates the effectiveness, challenges, and potential benefits of telehealth interventions in managing chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart conditions, among older adults. The research methodology involved a comprehensive literature review of relevant studies published in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on telehealth interventions for chronic disease management in older adults. Ten key themes emerged from the literature review, including the utilization of telehealth technologies, patient engagement, healthcare provider perspectives, patient outcomes, cost-effectiveness, privacy and security issues, technological barriers, regulatory challenges, and the role of telehealth in promoting self-management of chronic diseases. Findings from the literature review highlighted the positive impact of telehealth on improving access to care, enhancing patient-provider communication, promoting self-care behaviors, and reducing healthcare costs associated with chronic disease management in older adults. However, challenges such as technological barriers, privacy concerns, and regulatory issues were also identified as barriers to the widespread adoption of telehealth interventions. The discussion of findings underscores the need for further research to address the challenges and maximize the benefits of telehealth in chronic disease management for older adults. Recommendations for policymakers, healthcare providers, and researchers are provided to enhance the integration of telehealth into routine care practices for older adults with chronic conditions. In conclusion, this systematic review contributes to the existing literature by providing a comprehensive overview of the impact of telehealth on chronic disease management in older adults. The study highlights the potential of telehealth to transform healthcare delivery and improve health outcomes for older adults with chronic diseases. Future research should focus on addressing the identified challenges and implementing evidence-based telehealth interventions to optimize care for this vulnerable population. Keywords Telehealth, Chronic Disease Management, Older Adults, Systematic Review, Healthcare Access, Patient Outcomes, Self-management, Technology Barriers, Policy Recommendations.

Thesis Overview

The research project titled "Exploring the Impact of Telehealth on Chronic Disease Management in Older Adults: A Systematic Review" aims to investigate the implications of utilizing telehealth technologies in managing chronic diseases among older adults. Chronic diseases pose a significant burden on healthcare systems globally, particularly in aging populations. Telehealth, which involves the delivery of healthcare services remotely through technologies like video conferencing and mobile apps, has emerged as a promising approach to improve access to care and enhance disease management for older adults. The systematic review will involve a comprehensive analysis of existing literature related to telehealth interventions for chronic disease management in older adults. The research will focus on identifying the various telehealth technologies and strategies utilized in managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and respiratory disorders among older populations. By synthesizing and critically evaluating the findings from previous studies, the project aims to provide insights into the effectiveness, challenges, and potential benefits of telehealth in improving health outcomes and quality of life for older adults with chronic diseases. Key aspects to be explored in the research overview include the current landscape of telehealth adoption in chronic disease management, the specific technologies and interventions employed, the impact on patient outcomes and healthcare delivery, as well as the barriers and facilitators to successful implementation. The systematic review will also seek to identify gaps in the existing literature and propose recommendations for future research and clinical practice in leveraging telehealth for chronic disease management in older adults. Overall, this research overview sets the stage for a detailed examination of the role of telehealth in addressing the complex healthcare needs of older adults with chronic diseases. By shedding light on the potential benefits and challenges of telehealth interventions, this systematic review aims to contribute valuable insights to the field of geriatric healthcare and inform policy decisions aimed at enhancing the quality and accessibility of care for aging populations.
