Abstract
The utilization of telehealth in healthcare settings has gained significant attention due to its potential to improve access to care, especially for vulnerable populations such as elderly patients living in rural areas. This thesis explores the effectiveness of telehealth in enhancing chronic disease management for elderly patients in rural areas. The study aims to investigate the impact of telehealth interventions on the management of chronic diseases among elderly individuals, assess the barriers and limitations associated with telehealth implementation in rural settings, and explore the perceptions and experiences of healthcare providers and patients regarding telehealth services. The research methodology employed a mixed-methods approach, including a systematic literature review to establish the current knowledge base, qualitative interviews with healthcare providers and elderly patients to gather in-depth perspectives, and quantitative surveys to assess the outcomes of telehealth interventions. The study identified ten key themes from the literature review, highlighting the benefits, challenges, and best practices of telehealth in chronic disease management for the elderly population. Findings from the research revealed that telehealth interventions have the potential to improve access to care, enhance disease monitoring, promote self-management, and reduce healthcare disparities among elderly patients in rural areas. However, several challenges were identified, including technological barriers, limited internet connectivity, privacy concerns, and resistance to change among healthcare providers and patients. The discussion of findings delves into the implications of the study results, emphasizing the need for tailored telehealth solutions that address the unique needs and challenges of elderly patients in rural areas. Recommendations for policy improvements, infrastructure development, and training programs for healthcare professionals are proposed to optimize the effectiveness of telehealth in chronic disease management for the elderly population. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the growing body of knowledge on telehealth interventions for chronic disease management, particularly focusing on elderly patients in rural areas. By addressing the gaps in current literature and providing practical insights for healthcare providers and policymakers, this study aims to enhance the quality of care and outcomes for elderly individuals with chronic conditions, ultimately promoting health equity and improving healthcare delivery in rural communities.
