Blockchain technology has emerged as a transformative tool with the potential to revolutionize various industries, including supply chain management. This thesis explores the application of blockchain technology for enhancing transparency within the supply chains of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The research investigates how blockchain can address existing challenges related to supply chain transparency, such as information asymmetry, data integrity, and trust issues. By leveraging the decentralized and immutable nature of blockchain technology, SMEs can establish transparent and secure supply chain networks that foster trust among stakeholders. The study begins by providing an overview of the background and significance of leveraging blockchain technology in SME supply chains. It highlights the importance of transparency in supply chains for improving efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing sustainability. The problem statement emphasizes the current limitations and challenges faced by SMEs in maintaining transparency within their supply chains. The objectives of the study are outlined to investigate the impact of blockchain technology on supply chain transparency, identify key factors influencing its adoption, and propose strategies for successful implementation. A comprehensive literature review is presented, covering ten key themes related to blockchain technology, supply chain management, transparency, and SMEs. The review synthesizes existing research findings and theoretical frameworks to provide a solid foundation for the research study. The methodology section describes the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures employed in the study. It outlines how qualitative and quantitative data were collected and analyzed to achieve the research objectives. The findings of the study are discussed in detail, highlighting the benefits and challenges of implementing blockchain technology for improving supply chain transparency in SMEs.
