Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Oxidative stress is a condition characterized by an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the ability of the body to detoxify these reactive intermediates. This imbalance can lead to damage to cells, proteins, and DNA, contributing to various diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders. Antioxidants play a crucial role in combating oxidative stress by neutralizing ROS and protecting cells from damage. This thesis focuses on the analysis of the antioxidant properties of natural compounds in reducing oxidative stress. The study aims to investigate the effectiveness of selected natural compounds in scavenging ROS and their potential protective effects against oxidative damage. The research will involve in vitro experiments using cell culture models to assess the antioxidant activity of these compounds and their ability to mitigate oxidative stress-induced damage. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to oxidative stress, the background of the study, the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance of the study, structure of the thesis, and definitions of key terms related to antioxidant properties and oxidative stress. Chapter 2 comprises a comprehensive literature review covering ten key aspects related to antioxidants, oxidative stress, natural compounds, and their mechanisms of action in reducing oxidative damage. This review will provide a theoretical framework for understanding the role of antioxidants in combating oxidative stress. Chapter 3 outlines the research methodology, including the selection of natural compounds, experimental design, cell culture techniques, assessment of antioxidant activity, and evaluation of protective effects against oxidative stress. The chapter will also detail the analytical methods used to quantify ROS levels and measure oxidative damage in cells. Chapter 4 presents a detailed discussion of the findings from the experiments, including the antioxidant properties of the selected natural compounds, their efficacy in reducing ROS levels, and their protective effects against oxidative stress-induced damage. The results will be analyzed and interpreted to draw meaningful conclusions regarding the potential use of these compounds as antioxidants. Chapter 5 concludes the thesis by summarizing the key findings, discussing their implications for future research and applications in combating oxidative stress. The thesis contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the antioxidant properties of natural compounds and their potential therapeutic benefits in reducing oxidative damage and preventing associated diseases. Overall, this study aims to provide valuable insights into the role of natural compounds as antioxidants in reducing oxidative stress and promoting cellular health. These findings have the potential to contribute to the development of novel antioxidant-based therapies for managing oxidative stress-related conditions and improving overall health outcomes.
