Thesis Abstract

Abstract
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that play crucial roles in regulating gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. Dysregulation of miRNAs has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer. In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of miRNAs in regulating gene expression in cancer cells, with a focus on understanding their potential as therapeutic targets. The research methodology involved a comprehensive literature review to understand the current state of knowledge regarding miRNAs in cancer, followed by experimental studies to analyze the expression profiles of specific miRNAs in cancer cells. Various bioinformatics tools were utilized to predict target genes of the differentially expressed miRNAs and to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms involved in their regulatory functions. The findings of this study revealed that several miRNAs were differentially expressed in cancer cells compared to normal cells, suggesting their potential involvement in tumorigenesis. Through gene expression analysis and functional studies, we identified key target genes regulated by these miRNAs, many of which are known oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes. The discussion of the findings highlighted the complex regulatory networks involving miRNAs and their target genes in cancer cells. The interplay between miRNAs and other regulatory factors, such as transcription factors and signaling pathways, was also explored to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the regulatory mechanisms underlying cancer development. In conclusion, this study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the role of miRNAs in cancer and provides insights into their potential as therapeutic targets. By elucidating the regulatory functions of miRNAs in cancer cells, this research opens up new avenues for the development of novel treatment strategies that target specific miRNAs or their downstream pathways. Further research is warranted to validate the findings of this study and to explore the clinical implications of targeting miRNAs in cancer therapy.
