Abstract
Periodontal disease is a prevalent and challenging condition that affects a significant portion of the global population. The traditional treatment modalities for periodontal disease, such as scaling and root planing, have limitations in addressing the complex nature of the disease. In recent years, laser therapy has emerged as a promising alternative for the management of periodontal disease due to its ability to target and eliminate bacteria while promoting tissue regeneration. This thesis aims to assess the efficacy of laser therapy in the treatment of periodontal disease through a comprehensive review of existing literature, followed by a detailed methodology to evaluate the outcomes of laser therapy in a clinical setting. The literature review explores the mechanisms of action of laser therapy in periodontal disease treatment, including its antimicrobial effects, anti-inflammatory properties, and potential for tissue regeneration. The review also discusses the different types of lasers used in periodontal therapy, their wavelengths, and modes of application. Furthermore, the review examines the clinical studies and case reports that have investigated the effectiveness of laser therapy in treating various stages of periodontal disease. The research methodology section outlines the design of a prospective clinical study to evaluate the efficacy of laser therapy in a sample of patients with periodontal disease. The methodology includes details on patient selection criteria, treatment protocols, outcome measures, and statistical analysis plan. Additionally, the methodology discusses the ethical considerations and potential limitations of the study.
