Assessment of the Efficacy of Laser Therapy in the Treatment of Oral Mucositis in Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy

**Abstract
** Oral mucositis, a common and debilitating side effect of cancer chemotherapy, often leads to significant morbidity and interruptions in cancer treatment. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of laser therapy in the management of oral mucositis in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to explore the current understanding of oral mucositis pathogenesis, risk factors, and existing treatment modalities. The research methodology involved a randomized controlled trial with cancer patients experiencing oral mucositis symptoms, who were assigned to either a laser therapy group or a control group receiving standard care. The results of this study indicated that laser therapy significantly reduced the severity of oral mucositis symptoms, including pain, inflammation, and ulceration, compared to standard care alone. Furthermore, laser therapy demonstrated a positive impact on the healing process of oral mucositis lesions and contributed to a faster recovery time for patients in the treatment group. The findings also suggested that laser therapy was well-tolerated, safe, and had minimal adverse effects in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. In conclusion, the results of this study support the efficacy of laser therapy as a promising treatment modality for oral mucositis in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. The implications of these findings include the potential integration of laser therapy into standard supportive care protocols for cancer patients to improve oral health outcomes, reduce treatment interruptions, and enhance overall quality of life during cancer treatment. Further research is warranted to explore the long-term effects and optimal parameters of laser therapy in oral mucositis management.
