Abstract
This thesis investigates the effectiveness of various toothbrushing techniques in preventing dental plaque formation. Dental plaque is a biofilm that accumulates on tooth surfaces and is a primary factor in the development of dental caries and periodontal diseases. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of different toothbrushing methods in plaque removal and prevention. The research methodology employed a randomized controlled trial design with a sample of 200 participants divided into five groups, each using a different toothbrushing technique. Plaque levels were assessed using quantitative plaque indices at baseline and after a specified period of using the assigned technique. Additionally, participants were provided with standardized oral hygiene instructions to ensure consistency in oral care practices. The literature review highlights previous studies on toothbrushing techniques, dental plaque formation, and oral hygiene practices. It discusses the significance of plaque control in maintaining oral health and the role of effective toothbrushing methods in preventing dental diseases. The review also addresses the limitations and gaps in existing research, emphasizing the need for further investigation into optimal brushing techniques. The findings of this study indicate that certain toothbrushing methods are more effective than others in reducing plaque accumulation. Specifically, techniques that focus on proper brushing angles, duration, and pressure demonstrate superior plaque removal capabilities. These results have practical implications for oral hygiene recommendations and patient education in dental practice. In conclusion, this thesis contributes valuable insights into the efficacy of different toothbrushing techniques in preventing dental plaque formation. By identifying the most effective methods for plaque control, oral health professionals can tailor their recommendations to optimize patient outcomes and reduce the risk of oral diseases. Further research in this area is warranted to explore additional factors that may influence plaque removal and oral hygiene practices.
