Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of various dental filling materials in restoring tooth structure. The research focused on comparing the performance of commonly used filling materials such as amalgam, composite resin, glass ionomer, and ceramic in terms of durability, aesthetics, biocompatibility, and overall patient satisfaction. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to gather existing knowledge on the different types of dental filling materials and their properties. The research methodology involved in vitro experiments using extracted human teeth to simulate real-life dental restoration scenarios. The teeth were prepared with standardized cavities and filled with the different materials under investigation. Various tests were then performed to assess the strength, bonding properties, color match, and other relevant characteristics of the fillings. The findings of the study indicated that each type of dental filling material exhibited unique advantages and limitations. Amalgam fillings demonstrated superior strength and longevity but lacked in aesthetics and biocompatibility. Composite resin fillings, on the other hand, provided excellent aesthetic results and bonding properties but were more prone to wear and discoloration. Glass ionomer fillings showed good biocompatibility and fluoride release properties, making them suitable for certain applications. Ceramic fillings were highly aesthetic and durable but required more specialized techniques for placement. The research methodology employed in this study allowed for a thorough evaluation of the efficacy of different dental filling materials in restoring tooth structure. The results provided valuable insights for dental practitioners in selecting the most appropriate filling material based on the specific requirements of each case. Overall, this study contributes to the advancement of dental materials science and enhances the understanding of the factors influencing the success of dental restorations. In conclusion, the assessment of the efficacy of various dental filling materials in restoring tooth structure is essential for ensuring successful and long-lasting dental treatments. By considering factors such as durability, aesthetics, biocompatibility, and patient satisfaction, dental professionals can make informed decisions regarding the selection of filling materials. Further research in this field is warranted to explore new materials and techniques that can improve the outcomes of dental restorations and enhance patient care.
