Evaluating the Potential of Agroecosystem Diversification for Pest Management

Thesis Abstract

This project aims to evaluate the potential of agroecosystem diversification as a sustainable approach for pest management in agricultural systems. Monoculture-based farming systems are often susceptible to pest outbreaks, leading to overreliance on chemical pesticides with detrimental environmental and human health impacts. Agroecosystem diversification, including intercropping, crop rotations, and polyculture systems, offers ecological alternatives for pest suppression through enhanced biodiversity and natural enemy conservation. This study will assess the effectiveness of agroecosystem diversification in reducing pest pressure, promoting natural pest control, and improving overall crop health. The research outcomes will provide valuable insights into the ecological principles underlying agroecosystem diversification and its potential for sustainable pest management in agriculture.
