Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Corruption has been a pervasive issue in Nigeria, significantly hindering the country's development and progress. The city of Owerri, the capital of Imo State in Nigeria, has not been immune to the detrimental effects of corruption. This research project aims to explore the various strategies and initiatives employed in the war against corruption in Owerri. The study will delve into the historical context of corruption in Nigeria and Owerri, providing a comprehensive overview of the root causes and manifestations of corrupt practices in the region. By conducting interviews with key stakeholders, policymakers, and anti-corruption agencies, the research will identify the challenges and obstacles faced in the fight against corruption in Owerri. Furthermore, the project will analyze the effectiveness of existing anti-corruption measures in Owerri, such as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Through a comparative analysis of these initiatives, the research aims to determine the strengths and weaknesses of each approach and provide recommendations for improvement. In addition, the study will examine the role of technology and innovation in combating corruption in Owerri. With the advancement of digital tools and platforms, there is a growing opportunity to enhance transparency and accountability in governance. The research will investigate the implementation of e-governance systems and anti-corruption technologies in Owerri and assess their impact on reducing corrupt practices.
