Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Police body-worn cameras (BWCs) have become a prominent tool in modern law enforcement, aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and public trust. This thesis explores the impact of police BWCs on public perceptions of law enforcement. The study investigates how the presence of BWCs influences public trust, confidence, and attitudes towards law enforcement officers. A comprehensive review of existing literature on BWCs, public perceptions, and police-community relations forms the foundation of this research. The research methodology involves a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from members of the public. The sample population will include individuals from diverse demographic backgrounds to ensure a broad representation of public opinions. The data analysis will be conducted using both statistical techniques and thematic coding to identify patterns and themes in the responses. The findings of this study aim to provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of BWCs in shaping public perceptions of law enforcement. By understanding how the presence of BWCs influences public trust and attitudes towards police officers, law enforcement agencies can make informed decisions regarding the implementation and utilization of this technology. The results may also inform policy recommendations aimed at improving police-community relations and enhancing overall public confidence in law enforcement. Overall, this thesis contributes to the ongoing discourse surrounding police BWCs and their impact on public perceptions of law enforcement. By examining the relationship between BWCs and public trust, this research seeks to advance our understanding of the role of technology in shaping police-community interactions and fostering positive relationships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
