The use of body-worn cameras (BWCs) by law enforcement agencies has become a widely debated topic in recent years, with proponents arguing that they enhance transparency and accountability, while critics raise concerns about privacy rights and potential biases in their usage. This comparative study examines the impact of BWCs on police-community relations in two distinct urban settings, aiming to provide insights into the effectiveness of these devices in improving interactions between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve. The research methodology involves a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of crime data and qualitative examination of community perceptions through surveys and interviews. The study will compare the implementation and outcomes of BWC programs in City A and City B, considering factors such as departmental policies, officer training, community engagement strategies, and public perceptions of policing. Through a comprehensive literature review, this thesis explores the existing research on BWCs and their effects on police behavior, community trust, and the criminal justice system. The literature review also examines the theoretical frameworks that underpin the use of BWCs in law enforcement and the ethical considerations surrounding their deployment. The findings of this study will contribute to the growing body of knowledge on the impact of BWCs on police-community relations and provide valuable insights for policymakers, law enforcement agencies, and community stakeholders.
