Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has revolutionized the way modern secretaries carry out their duties and responsibilities. This study aims to explore the challenges that ICT presents to modern secretaries in today’s fast-paced work environment. The research delves into the various aspects of ICT that impact secretarial roles, such as email communication, digital scheduling tools, virtual meetings, and document management systems. One of the key challenges faced by modern secretaries is the constant need to adapt to ever-evolving technologies. With new software and applications being introduced regularly, secretaries must continuously update their skills to effectively utilize these tools in their daily tasks. Additionally, the rapid pace of technological advancements can lead to information overload, making it challenging for secretaries to sift through vast amounts of data and prioritize tasks efficiently. Moreover, ICT has blurred the boundaries of traditional office hours, allowing for constant connectivity and communication. While this can enhance productivity and flexibility, it also raises concerns about work-life balance for secretaries who may find it difficult to disconnect from work due to the constant accessibility facilitated by ICT. Furthermore, the reliance on digital platforms for communication and file management has raised issues related to data security and confidentiality. Modern secretaries must navigate the complexities of ensuring the privacy and integrity of sensitive information in an era where cyber threats are prevalent. This necessitates a strong understanding of data protection regulations and best practices for secure information handling. The introduction of virtual meetings and online collaboration tools has transformed the way secretaries interact with colleagues and clients. However, managing virtual communication effectively presents its own set of challenges, including technical glitches, miscommunication due to lack of non-verbal cues, and difficulties in fostering meaningful relationships in a digital environment. In conclusion, while ICT offers numerous benefits in terms of efficiency and connectivity, modern secretaries face a range of challenges in adapting to and harnessing these technologies effectively. By addressing these challenges through continuous learning, adapting to new tools, and prioritizing data security and communication strategies, secretaries can leverage the power of ICT to enhance their productivity and effectiveness in the modern workplace.
