Thesis Abstract
Abstract
The maintenance of roads is a critical aspect of infrastructure development for sustainable growth and progress. This research project focuses on the maintenance of the road from Tollgate to Ezeoken Enugu-Onitsha dual carriage way in Enugu State, Nigeria. The study aims to assess the current state of the road, identify the challenges faced in maintaining it, and propose sustainable solutions to ensure the road's longevity and efficiency. Through a combination of field surveys, interviews with stakeholders, and analysis of existing data, the research will evaluate the physical condition of the road, including factors such as pavement quality, drainage systems, signage, and road furniture. By understanding the current state of the road, the study will highlight areas that require immediate attention and prioritize maintenance efforts to address critical issues effectively. Furthermore, the research will investigate the challenges hindering the effective maintenance of the road, such as inadequate funding, lack of skilled manpower, and bureaucratic bottlenecks. By identifying these hurdles, the study will propose strategies to overcome them and streamline the maintenance process for optimal results. Additionally, the project will explore the role of public-private partnerships in road maintenance and assess their viability in the context of the Tollgate to Ezeoken Enugu-Onitsha dual carriage way. In proposing sustainable solutions, the research will recommend best practices for road maintenance, including regular inspections, timely repairs, and community engagement. By implementing a proactive maintenance strategy, the road can be kept in good condition, reducing the need for costly rehabilitation projects in the future. The study will also emphasize the importance of community involvement in road maintenance, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility among local residents. Overall, this research project seeks to provide valuable insights into the maintenance of roads for sustainable development, using the Tollgate to Ezeoken Enugu-Onitsha dual carriage way as a case study. By identifying challenges, proposing solutions, and emphasizing the importance of proactive maintenance practices, the study aims to contribute to the improvement of infrastructure quality and the overall development of Enugu State.
