Thesis Abstract
Abstract
Domestic wastewater treatment in Nigeria is a critical issue due to the increasing urban population and limited infrastructure. The improper disposal of domestic wastewater poses significant environmental and health risks. This research project aims to analyze the current status of domestic wastewater treatment in Nigeria, focusing on the challenges and opportunities for improving the existing infrastructure. The study involves a comprehensive review of existing domestic wastewater treatment methods in Nigeria, including centralized treatment plants, decentralized systems, and on-site sanitation technologies. It examines the performance, efficiency, and sustainability of these treatment systems in the context of Nigeria's socio-economic and environmental conditions. Furthermore, the research investigates the regulatory framework governing domestic wastewater treatment in Nigeria and assesses its effectiveness in ensuring compliance and promoting sustainable practices. The study also explores the role of government policies, institutional support, and public awareness campaigns in enhancing domestic wastewater treatment practices across the country. Through a combination of field surveys, data analysis, and stakeholder interviews, the research project aims to identify the key challenges hindering effective domestic wastewater treatment in Nigeria. These challenges may include inadequate infrastructure, limited financial resources, lack of technical expertise, and low public awareness about the importance of proper wastewater management. Based on the findings, the research proposes recommendations for improving domestic wastewater treatment practices in Nigeria. These recommendations may include the development of innovative technologies, capacity building programs for stakeholders, public-private partnerships, and community engagement initiatives. The research also emphasizes the importance of integrating sustainable and cost-effective solutions to address the growing demand for domestic wastewater treatment services in Nigeria. Overall, this research project contributes to the ongoing efforts to enhance domestic wastewater treatment in Nigeria by providing valuable insights into the current status, challenges, and opportunities for sustainable wastewater management. By identifying effective strategies and best practices, the study aims to support policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders in implementing comprehensive and efficient domestic wastewater treatment solutions across the country.
