Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Urbanization has led to significant challenges in managing stormwater runoff, resulting in increased flooding, water pollution, and ecological degradation. Sustainable low-impact development (LID) techniques offer promising solutions by mimicking natural hydrological processes to manage stormwater on-site. This thesis presents an in-depth analysis and design of sustainable LID techniques for urban stormwater management. The research aims to address the limitations of conventional stormwater management practices and promote environmentally friendly alternatives. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the study, presenting the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. The literature review in Chapter 2 covers ten key aspects related to LID techniques, including their principles, benefits, and implementation challenges. Chapter 3 outlines the research methodology, detailing the data collection methods, analysis techniques, and design considerations for sustainable LID practices. Chapter 4 presents a comprehensive discussion of the findings, highlighting the effectiveness of various sustainable LID techniques in managing urban stormwater. The chapter also addresses the economic feasibility, environmental impacts, and social acceptance of these techniques. The results indicate that sustainable LID practices can significantly reduce stormwater runoff, improve water quality, and enhance urban resilience to climate change. In conclusion, Chapter 5 summarizes the key findings of the study and provides recommendations for the implementation of sustainable LID techniques in urban stormwater management. The research underscores the importance of integrating nature-based solutions into urban planning and design to create more sustainable and resilient cities. By adopting sustainable LID techniques, stakeholders can mitigate the adverse effects of urbanization on the hydrological cycle and promote a healthier and more sustainable urban environment.
