This thesis explores the implementation of sustainable supply chain management practices in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as a means to enhance their environmental and social responsibility performance. The research investigates the challenges faced by SMEs in adopting sustainable practices within their supply chains, the potential benefits of such initiatives, and the strategies that can be employed to overcome barriers to implementation. Through a comprehensive literature review, the study examines current trends and best practices in sustainable supply chain management, highlighting the importance of integrating environmental and social concerns into traditional supply chain operations. The research methodology employs a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative interviews with SME owners and managers, as well as quantitative surveys to gather data on current practices, challenges, and opportunities for improvement. By analyzing the data collected, the study aims to identify key factors influencing the successful implementation of sustainable supply chain practices in SMEs, such as resource constraints, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance. The findings reveal that while SMEs face numerous obstacles in adopting sustainable practices, such as limited financial resources and lack of awareness, there are also significant benefits to be gained, including cost savings, enhanced brand reputation, and improved relationships with suppliers and customers. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of continuous improvement and monitoring of sustainability performance to ensure long-term success and competitiveness in the marketplace. Overall, this thesis contributes to the existing body of knowledge on sustainable supply chain management in SMEs by offering insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing sustainable practices and providing practical guidance for SMEs seeking to enhance their environmental and social responsibility performance.
