Total Quality Management (TQM) has been widely recognized as a strategic approach for improving organizational performance and customer satisfaction. While TQM has been extensively studied in large corporations, there is limited research on its implementation in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This thesis aims to investigate the implementation of Total Quality Management in SMEs, focusing on the challenges, benefits, and strategies for successful adoption. The study begins with a comprehensive review of literature on Total Quality Management, its principles, and its application in different organizational settings. The literature review highlights the importance of TQM in enhancing quality, productivity, and competitiveness, and the need for tailored approaches for SMEs. The research methodology section outlines the research design, data collection methods, and data analysis techniques employed in the study. A mixed-methods approach is utilized, combining qualitative interviews with SME owners and managers and quantitative surveys of employees in selected SMEs. The findings from the study reveal the various challenges faced by SMEs in implementing TQM, including limited resources, lack of expertise, and resistance to change. However, the study also identifies several benefits of TQM adoption in SMEs, such as improved product quality, customer satisfaction, and employee engagement. The discussion of findings section explores the implications of the study results for SMEs seeking to implement TQM practices.
