Studying the role of plant allelochemicals in allelopathy

Thesis Abstract

This project aims to study the role of plant allelochemicals in allelopathy. Allelopathy refers to the chemical interactions between plants, where certain plants release bioactive compounds into the environment that can influence the growth and development of neighboring plants. Allelochemicals play a crucial role in mediating these interactions and can have both positive and negative effects on plant growth. Understanding the mechanisms and ecological implications of allelopathy is important for sustainable agriculture, weed management, and ecosystem functioning. In this study, we will investigate the production, release, and effects of allelochemicals on target plants. We will also explore the underlying physiological and molecular mechanisms of allelopathic interactions, including the role of allelochemicals in plant defense and competition. The findings from this research will contribute to our understanding of allelopathy and provide insights into the potential applications of allelochemicals in agriculture and ecological restoration.
