Thesis Abstract

This project aims to study the impact of plant invasions on soil nutrient cycling. Invasive plant species can significantly alter ecosystem processes, including nutrient cycling, due to their unique traits and competitive abilities. Understanding the effects of plant invasions on soil nutrient availability and cycling is crucial for predicting and managing the ecological impacts of invasive species. In this study, we will conduct field surveys and laboratory experiments to assess the changes in soil nutrient content and cycling processes in invaded and non-invaded areas. We will analyze soil nutrient concentrations, enzyme activities, and microbial community composition. Additionally, we will investigate the role of invasive plant traits, such as litter decomposition rates and nutrient uptake efficiency, in driving the observed changes in soil nutrient cycling. The findings from this study will contribute to our understanding of the ecological consequences of plant invasions and inform invasive species management strategies.
