Investigating the role of plant volatiles in plant-nematode interactions

Thesis Abstract

This project aims to investigate the role of plant volatiles in plant-nematode interactions. Nematodes are microscopic worms that can cause significant damage to plant roots, leading to reduced crop yields. Recent studies have suggested that plants release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in response to nematode infestation, which may attract or repel nematodes. This project will involve conducting experiments to analyze the VOC profiles of plants infested with nematodes and studying the behavioral responses of nematodes to these volatiles. The findings will contribute to a better understanding of the chemical communication between plants and nematodes, potentially leading to the development of novel strategies for nematode control in agriculture.
