This project aims to investigate the impact of plant-pollinator interactions on plant evolution. Pollinators, such as bees, butterflies, and birds, play a crucial role in plant reproduction by facilitating the transfer of pollen between flowers. These interactions have shaped the evolution of floral traits, including flower color, shape, scent, and nectar production, to attract specific pollinators. By studying the relationship between plants and their pollinators, we can gain insights into the co-evolutionary dynamics between these two groups and the selective pressures that have influenced the diversification of floral traits. The project will involve field observations of plant-pollinator interactions, analysis of floral traits and pollinator preferences, and genetic analysis to investigate the genetic basis of floral variation. The findings of this study will contribute to our understanding of plant evolution and may have implications for conservation and ecosystem management.
