Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This research project aimed to identify the factors influencing the attitude of radiographers towards their professional body. Radiographers play a crucial role in the healthcare system, providing diagnostic imaging services and supporting patient care. Understanding the factors that influence their attitudes towards their professional body is essential for improving engagement, communication, and collaboration within the profession. A mixed-methods approach was employed for data collection, including both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The quantitative survey was distributed to a sample of radiographers across different settings to gather data on demographics, professional experiences, and attitudes towards their professional body. The qualitative interviews were conducted with a subset of survey respondents to explore in-depth the reasons behind their attitudes and perceptions. The findings of the study highlighted several key factors that influence the attitudes of radiographers towards their professional body. These factors include communication, support, recognition, professional development opportunities, and perceived impact on the profession. Radiographers who felt that their professional body effectively communicated its activities, provided support and recognition for their work, and offered opportunities for professional growth had more positive attitudes towards the body. Conversely, radiographers who perceived a lack of communication, support, or recognition, or who felt that the professional body was not addressing their needs or concerns, had more negative attitudes. Additionally, the perceived impact of the professional body on the profession as a whole influenced individual attitudes. Radiographers who believed that their professional body was making a positive impact on the profession tended to have more favorable attitudes. Overall, this research contributes to a better understanding of the factors that shape radiographers' attitudes towards their professional body. The findings suggest that effective communication, support, recognition, and opportunities for professional development are crucial for fostering positive attitudes among radiographers. By addressing these factors, professional bodies can enhance engagement, collaboration, and satisfaction among their members, ultimately leading to a more cohesive and empowered profession.
