This project aims to analyze the impact of plant domestication on plant resistance to herbivory. Domestication is a process that involves the selection and breeding of plants for desirable traits, such as increased yield and reduced seed shattering. However, this process may inadvertently affect plant defenses against herbivores. Through this study, we will investigate how domestication has influenced plant resistance to herbivory by comparing wild and domesticated plant populations. We will assess various aspects of plant resistance, including physical defenses, chemical defenses, and induced defenses. By conducting field surveys and laboratory experiments, we will examine the differences in herbivory rates and plant defense mechanisms between wild and domesticated plants. The findings from this research will contribute to our understanding of the ecological consequences of plant domestication and may have implications for crop protection and sustainable agriculture.
