Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Information Technology (IT) has become an integral part of the operations of banks in Nigeria, revolutionizing the way they conduct business. This research aims to explore the various contributions of information technology in enhancing the efficiency, customer service, and overall performance of banks in Nigeria. The study will investigate how IT systems such as core banking platforms, mobile banking applications, and online banking portals have transformed traditional banking processes. The research will also examine the impact of IT on improving security measures in banks to protect customer information and prevent fraud. With the increasing prevalence of cyber threats, IT has played a crucial role in safeguarding sensitive data and ensuring the integrity of financial transactions. Additionally, the study will analyze how IT has facilitated the implementation of regulatory requirements and compliance standards within the banking sector. Furthermore, the research will investigate the role of IT in expanding the reach of banking services to underserved populations in remote areas through digital banking channels. With the proliferation of smartphones and internet connectivity, banks have been able to offer financial services to a wider customer base, promoting financial inclusion and economic development. Moreover, the study will explore the challenges and limitations associated with the adoption of IT in the banking sector in Nigeria. Issues such as cybersecurity threats, data privacy concerns, infrastructure limitations, and skills shortages will be examined to provide a comprehensive understanding of the potential risks and obstacles faced by banks in leveraging IT technologies. By conducting a thorough analysis of the contributions of information technology in Nigerian banks, this research aims to provide valuable insights for policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders. The findings of this study can be utilized to develop strategies for enhancing the utilization of IT in the banking sector, improving operational efficiency, and delivering innovative financial services to meet the evolving needs of customers in Nigeria. In conclusion, the research on the contributions of information technology in the operations of banks in Nigeria is essential for understanding the transformative impact of IT on the banking industry. By leveraging IT systems and digital solutions, banks can enhance their competitiveness, drive financial inclusion, and improve customer satisfaction, ultimately contributing to the growth and stability of the Nigerian banking sector.
