IMPACT OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY ON THE FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF SELECTED DEPOSIT MONEY BANKS IN NIGERIA

Thesis Abstract

ABSTRACT Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays a crucial role in the modern business environment, particularly in the banking sector. This study aims to investigate the impact of ICT on the financial performance of selected deposit money banks in Nigeria. The research focuses on assessing how the adoption and utilization of ICT tools and systems affect various financial indicators of banks, including profitability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. The research methodology involves a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative analysis of financial data with qualitative assessments through interviews and surveys with bank personnel. A sample of deposit money banks in Nigeria will be selected based on their size, market share, and ICT infrastructure to ensure a representative sample for the study. Financial data will be collected from annual reports and statements to analyze key performance indicators before and after the implementation of ICT initiatives. The study hypothesizes that there is a positive relationship between ICT adoption and financial performance in deposit money banks. It is expected that banks with more advanced ICT systems will experience improved operational efficiency, cost reduction, and revenue generation compared to those with less developed technology infrastructure. Additionally, the research aims to explore how ICT influences customer satisfaction and loyalty through improved service delivery and access to digital banking channels. The findings of this research are expected to provide valuable insights for banks, regulators, and policymakers in Nigeria regarding the strategic importance of ICT investments in enhancing financial performance. By understanding the specific ways in which ICT impacts key performance metrics, banks can make informed decisions about technology adoption and allocation of resources to maximize the benefits of digital transformation. Overall, this study contributes to the existing literature on ICT and financial performance by focusing on the Nigerian banking sector, which has undergone significant technological advancements in recent years. The research findings will not only add to the academic knowledge in this field but also offer practical recommendations for banks to leverage ICT for sustainable competitive advantage and long-term growth in the dynamic and evolving financial industry.
